Liceo de San Jacinto Foundation, Inc. (LSJFI), a modest college department in Ticao Island, Masbate, represented by LSJFI-College of Midwifery Dean Maria Concepcion T. Aslor, a member of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT), conducted an evaluation of Sorsogon State University’s (SorSU) Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (BSM) program on May 9, 2025, at the SorSU campus. This evaluation aimed to ensure the program’s compliance with CHED Memorandum Order No. 3, Series of 2023, which outlines updated policies, standards, and guidelines for midwifery education.
The evaluation process involved a thorough review of various program components. Constructive discussions with SorSU administrators and faculty members also took place to assess the program’s strengths and areas for improvement. The insights shared are expected to guide SorSU in further refining its curriculum and resources to better serve the educational needs of future midwifery students.
LSJFI’s involvement underscores the capability of institutions like theirs to contribute meaningfully to academic quality assurance at a regional level. Its participation highlights that excellence in education is not confined to large institutions but is a shared commitment across all educational institutions.
LSJFI commits to working towards strengthening quality assurance mechanisms to ensure that future midwives are educated in programs that meet the highest standards, ultimately contributing to safer maternal and newborn health outcomes, particularly in the island and generally in the country.
