Flordeliza Dilao, former LSJ teacher and registrar passes away

_20201112_061428

FLORDELIZA DILAO, fondly known as Tia Ineng, passed away last night 11/08/2020 after watching the 9-pm mass on TV in the house of her nieces and nephews in Masbate City.

She was my teacher in Literature and English when I was in high school at Liceo De San Jacinto. She was the one who introduced me to poems like The Raven, The Christmas Carol, Invictus, Annabel Lee and many more. I would not have known William Shakespeare, Robert Frost, Rudyard Kipling, and Dylan Thomas at an early age without her. She encouraged me to read, read and read so that when I reached my second year I was already consuming loads and loads of books, mostly novels that centered on court trials thanks to my cousin Atty. Jojo Moya who passed on to me his Perry Mason discards. My interests later on expanded to include astronomy, politics, history, economics, etc.

She continued to teach and later on became Liceo’s Registrar, a position she occupied until her retirement 3 years ago. She was strict, meticulous, detailed, and thorough — characteristics that served her well in the discharge of her responsibilities. Her integrity, honesty and incorruptibility were renowned.

Her family is now making the necessary arrangements with the authorities for the transfer of Tia Ineng’s remains to our hometown, San Jacinto.

Tia Ineng, I will miss our animated conversations whenever I visit San Jacinto. I thank you for loving me. In God’s bosom, you may now eternally rest!

As early as the declaration of the General Community Quarantine (GCQ), LSJ Techvoc head, Ana Flores Poblete, had been preoccupied visiting barangays on her awareness drive. The barangay captains themselves facilitated her house-to-house campaigns to encourage enrollees.

LSJ Office of Communication and Social Media trains with a Ticao creative photographers group, Ladawan

er (2)

To scout possible resources for improving its website, publications and other media, the Liceo de San Jacinto Office of Communication, Social Media and Public Relations (LSJ-OCSMPR) trains with enthusiasts of photography and cultural arts in Ticao, Masbate. Just one month ago, a local club, many of whose founders, officers and members are formerly and presently LSJ officials and employees, was organized to be called LADAWAN. Composed of creative photographers and videographers from Ticao, its present project is filming human interest subjects in the island depicting its culture for submission to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

OCSMPR is looking forward to tapping the talent and expertise of Ladawan members for future trainings, seminars and insight sharing in the former’s works and activities in Liceo especially those for the enhacement of the editorial staff members of the school papers.

Some of the founders or officers of Ladawan are Manuel Altarejos, former LSJ president, Mark Anthony Almoete, LSJ photographer and Marion Capellan, LSJ General Services Specialist. Headed by Maria Michaela Letada Redito, most of its members are professional photographers and journalism graduates.

What is Liceo’s learning modality in this pandemic time?

83036355_2953042344715326_4135048586779951104_o

What learning modality do we adapt and how are the teachers and the students going to do it?

We have a basic two-week learning cycle without face-to-face. It requires announcement of pre-determined pick-up points for delivery of the modules.

What does this mode exactly mean?

It means that the learning modules, each containing nine packets for nine subjects, will have to be picked up from the school by the parents and then returned two weeks later.

The teachers will evaluate these materials and return them for pick-up along with the latest modules covering the next two weeks.

Since internet connectivity problems may constantly occur, what connectivity option do we apply?

Communication between the distanced students and their teachers will be through chat groups (Facebook/Messenger), text messages and other platforms.

How do we ensure our Covid-free measures?

We have “health marshals” tasked to enforce health protocols during the distribution and retrieval cycles.

To what department/s does this modality apply?

To all: Elementary, High School and College Departments.

so, when is the opening of the classes?

The Senior High School already has started. The College classes opening will be announced soon.

LSJ Office of Communication and Social Media bands up campus models and imagery artists

Creative imagery and model appearance (visuals) are essential in print, broadcast and social media. Good, or in fact, excellent visuals are key factors in reflecting how innovative and forward thinking a company is that uses promotional and advertising media platform such as a website. 70-80% of people, according to a study by Blue Corona, research a company online even before engaging or interacting with it. Website con visuals create the company’s voice and personality before these customers or interactors.

Hence, the LSJFI Office of Communication, Social Media and Public Relations (OCSMPR) has organized a company of campus models utilized to bring out vividness in the school’s website and mobile app. They are constantly enthusiastic to serve representing roles whenever they are sent for their participation.

OCSMPR functions smoothly with these models and with the active role of Mark Anthony Almoete, a creative imagery artist who is the school’s official photo and video man.

Liceo kicks off early September opening for high school

IMG_2495
Apparently showing a delivery capability, Liceo is set to kick-off its opening on September 1, 2020 (high school first this September) as all the critical components of its Alternative/Blended plan of action had been wrapped ahead of its original October 5, 2020 overall opening schedule.
“We are ready with our modules. Our teachers have been primed and the parents have been informed,” announced Senior High School principal Melina G. Bartolay, who, together with Junior High School principal Dr. Monina S. Moya and Elementary School principal Dr. Dizon Llacer, has been doing spadework for some time.
In anticipation of an imminent opening, the school first invited the parents to a meeting two weeks ago to iron out kinks in the teaching method that calls for a basic two-week learning cycle without face-to-face and announcement of pre-determined pick-up points for delivery of the modules.
“This means that the learning modules, each containing nine packets for nine subjects, will have to be picked up from the school by parents and returned two weeks later,” explained Bartolay, who is a retired former principal of San Jacinto National High School (SJHNS).
“Teachers will then evaluate these materials and return them for pick-up along with the latest modules covering the next two weeks,” she added.
“Of course there will be problems in connectivity, but we already set up the structures that will deal with these issues,” said Moya. Communication between the distanced students and their teachers will be through chat groups, text messages via FB, and other platforms. Likewise, the school, through the initiative of Chief of Staff Noe C. Esparrago, has organized a group of employees called health marshals tasked to enforce health protocols during the distribution and retrieval cycles. “We will have to be very careful to ensure that our Covid-free status remains intact,” stressed Esparrago who moderated the in-house meeting that literally arrived at full expense for the modules, scheduling of staff, and coordination of the various elements in the endeavor.

Is BSISM under Criminology?

Correcting BSISM mislabeling and miscontruction

Is BSISM under Criminology? (Correcting the BSISM mislabeling and misconstruction)
BSISM or Bachelor of Science in Industrial Securtity Management is not a part of Criminology and that Criminology is not, the other way around, a principal college department in LSJFI that covers the BSISM!
Many are confused about this fact.
Rather, BSISM and BSCRIM (Bachelor of Science in Criminology, shortly known as “Criminology”) are the two two programs or courses of the Criminal Justice Education Department of the school. CJED is the proper principal department.

Liceo to close freshmen enrollment

IMG_2513

Liceo is set to close its college freshmen enrollment on August 14, 2020 as its enrollment roster has ballooned to 1, 590 as of August 4, 2020.
Of this total, 638 are first year students spread across BSEd (Major in English, Math and Filipino), BEEd, BS Criminology, and the popular latest offering, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Security Management (BSISM).
The decision to close the enrollment process was prompted by fears that the enrollees might exceed school capacity or there might be no college classes at all until January 2021. Secondly, that there might be a major turn-around and a version of regular classes will be allowed and which will leave the school in a lurch if enrollment is allowed to continue.
“No one is truly certain of how the Covid -19 crisis will end up management-wise,” opined one school official, “but we will have to prepare a solution for every possible scenario.”
What is certain is that the school has opted for what can be best described as an asynchronous – alternative learning – modular approach. “This will just call for once-a-week distanced classes where the modules will be distributed and explained to students,” said BS Criminology dean Ma. Carmina M. Cantonjos who submitted a 3-page Learning Continuity Plan proposal to the school’s management committee for perusal.
“For connectivity, these classes will be formed in chat groups using messenger or Facebook,” added Cantonjos, who also oversees the fledgling BSISM program now on its second level accreditation.
The school though feels sanguine that it stands on firm ground regarding CHED permission despite the recent loss of Masbate’s Covid-free status.
“The transmissions were not local but through the Balik Probinsya Program and unchecked Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs),” pointed out LSJF Inc. head Dr. Penelope B. Bagobe.
Thus far, Monreal, San Jacinto, and San Fernando in Ticao Island have remained Covid- free, while Batuan’s returnees have been successfully isolated from the mainstream population.
As of presstime, the returnee programs have been suspended with recently returned individuals put under strict quarantine protocols.
